1stXI 1 v 4 Marine - Match Report 18/03/23

Tough lessons to be learnt

...and quickly

Back down to earth (with a bump) yesterday (Saturday 18th Feb) for Chester Nomads 1sts.

A slow start saw Nomads go down 2 nil in next to no time. It seemed the 2 previous wins had given the Nomads boys an unjustified confidence. Slow, passive and second to everything, the boys simply didn't show up first half. A late penalty saw a Dudek-esk wonder save from the Marine 'keeper and with Brandon (Dickinson) still scratching his head as to how the ball was kept out the net the half drew to a somber close.

Some harsh words at half time and tinkering with tactics saw a noticeable change as the second half got underway. The fight and desire that had earned the Amber army maximum points in our 2 previous outings was back. The visitors were visibly rattled and a goal (for Nomads) came as no surprise.A corner pinged to the back post, a goal mouth scramble and power shot from 8 yards out from Chunk saw the ball smashed in to the Marine net. Hope springs eternal. Could an unlikely comeback be on the cards...

For half an hour the lads kept knocking on the door and gave everything but to no avail. Marine were still full of running, composed and simply just too much on the day. 2 late goals put the gloss and a convincing victory for for the visitors.

The boys from Boughton Hall will have to learn (very quicky) that showing up from the first minute of games is an absolute must!

Big shout to the officials yesterday who had a great game.

MOM - Matty P

We go again next week against one of the league's form sides in Rainhill and hope the Nomads that played in the second half yesterday starts the game from the first whistle.
